PENINSULA VILLAGE COUNCIL

April Peninsula Village Council Meeting Items of Note:

The 2007 Budget was put over to a Special Meeting on March 21 at 7:00 pm along with the Railing Project in Front of the Ritch Property on Route 303. Both of these items were approved at that meeting. To date, Mr. Hunker’s helpers have collected over $1,000 to pay for the railing. Thank you again to all who have donated money to the project. Look for it to be in place in time for the Memorial Day Parade.

Village funds were discussed at the regular April meeting, and the tightening of the budget. Overall, the village is experiencing having to tighten the belt, as the funds are down. The income tax collections are static for the first two months of this year compared with the 2 prior years, and the license tag tax and gasoline tax revenues are down from the last 2 years. Local government funding from the state continues to be frozen at 2001 levels. What this means to residents is that we will continue to look for ways to cut costs here at the village hall.

While I’m on the revenue topic, I would like to remind all the residents of our fair village that when you see a police officer writing a ticket, it is because someone has violated the law. Ticket writing is not a means for generating revenue; it is to create a safe environment for our residents and visitors. To use it as a way to increase the village coffers is illegal.
