WOODRIDGE CHEER CROWNED STATE RUNNER UP
Once again, the Woodridge Cheerleaders made history, this time with their first state runner up title. On March 2 the Woodridge High School Varsity Competition Cheerleading team took the mat to compete in the State Cheerleading Championship conducted by the Ohio Association of Secondary School Administrators at Big Walnut High School in Sunbury, Ohio.
The team qualified to participate in the competition at the Northeast Regional Cheerleading Qualifier last month at Lake High School in Uniontown. The regional qualifying event was the largest in the state. The OASSA State Cheerleading Championship consisted of approximately 275 teams competing in a variety of categories. Woodridge was named state runner up of the Division 3 Small Game Day category.
The team has had their most successful competition season to date. Starting their season in November, the team brought home five first place finishes, two grand champion titles, multiple specialty awards, and won the Metro Athletic Conference Champions for the second year in a row. As a result, coaches Amy Rogers and Tetyana Bissell (pictured below) were named the inaugural MAC Cheerleading Coaches of the Year.
The team consists of twelve athletes, the largest competition team to date. The league champion and state runner up team consists of seniors Cadence Bragg and Rachael DeMangeont, juniors Faith Johnson and Breya Taylor, sophomores Samantha Baker, Kiley Mayner, Regan Palmer, Gracie Srpigner, and Alvinus Zabay, and freshmen Natalie Harsey, Elle Lynch, and Penelope Watts. Congratulations to the Varsity Competition Cheerleading team on their successful season and making school history.
