HELLO FROM THE PENINSULA FOUNDATION
I wanted to take a moment to reach out to you—our community—and share some updates from the Peninsula Foundation. As many of you know, we experienced a significant loss this year with the destruction of one of our cherished historic buildings, formerly home to Eddy`s Bike Shop. It`s still hard to pass by that spot and not see the familiar, iconic structure standing there. That building, weathered and a little crooked as it was, had a long and colorful history—serving at various times as taverns, a tie shop, and most recently as a beloved hub for cyclists. Remarkably, it was one of the original buildings that survived the great flood of 1913, but sadly, it could not withstand the devastating fire on that cold February night.
Many of you have asked about the future of that site. While we don`t yet have a definitive plan, I can share that at our most recent Peninsula Foundation Board meeting, it was decided that we will not rebuild the structure as it once stood, for a number of reasons. We are, however, actively exploring solutions for Eddy`s Bike Shop, as we all recognize how vital they are to the fabric of our village.
Looking ahead, we`re excited to once again partner with the Peninsula Area Chamber of Commerce to host Music on the Porches on September 20th. Mark your calendars and plan to join us as we fill the Valley with music and community spirit!
And as always, I hope to see you at the G.A.R. Hall for more outstanding live music. We have a few great shows left before our brief summer break in August, and we`ll return in September with even more incredible performances. For our Voices in the Valley schedule and all G.A.R. Hall events, please visit www.thepeninsulafoundation.org.
Thank you for your continued support.
