AKRON-SUMMIT COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY BOND ISSUE
The Akron-Summit County Library (ASCPL) will have a Bond Issue on the May 6, 2025 ballot. Issue 18 will be seeking funds to cover repairs, upgrades and improvements to ASCPL`s main library and eighteen branch libraries. This Bond Issue, which will appear on ballots in Peninsula and in some areas of Boston Township and Boston Heights, will not generate revenue for the Peninsula Library & Historical Society (PLHS).
Since 1984, Akron and Peninsula have had an agreement whereby ASCPL returns to PLHS the money collected in our service area (Boston Township, Boston Heights, and Peninsula) from their Operating Levies. Since 1985, the first year of collection, ASCPL`s Operating Levies have generated $2,516,408 for the Peninsula Library. These funds have greatly enabled us to become the successful library that we are today. We are extremely grateful to ASCPL for initiating and implementing this revenue sharing agreement. This agreement, however, applies only to ASCPL`s Operating Levies and does not apply to the upcoming Bond Issue.
While the improvements that ASCPL will make as a result of this Bond Issue will be available to all residents of Summit County, we wanted to be clear with our communities where the funding will go. If you have any questions about ASCPL`s Bond Issue, please visit the website akronlibrary.org and open the "Contact Us" link or call the Main Library at (330) 643-9100. If you have any questions regarding the Peninsula Library and Historical Society, please contact Library Director Randy Bergdorf at randy.bergdorf@peninsulalibrary.org or by calling (330) 657-2665.
