BOSTON TOWNSHIP

The township minutes are posted on our website at www.bostontownship.org and outside the fiscal office at the Boston Township Hall. Trustee meetings are the second and fourth Wednesday of the month. Zoning commission meets the second Tuesday of the month and the Board of Zoning Appeals meets the fourth Wednesday of the month.

Ed Pullekins: On January 11, the trustees recognized township solicitor Ed Pullekins for his 35 years of service to the township, dating back to 1982. Also present were Ed`s wife, Mary, and his legal secretary, Ann Williams. Ed`s service to the township is immensely appreciated, benefiting the township, the fire district, the township hall committee, the cemetery board, and in too many other ways to mention. Thank you, Ed, and we look forward to many more years of working with you!

Gene and Evelyn Kaczmarski: Through a wee bit of trickery, the trustees made sure that Gene and Evelyn Kaczmarski were at the event mentioned above to recognize Ed Pullekins. As part of the event, Gene and Evelyn were recognized for their MANY years of service to the community by becoming Mr. and Mrs. Claus for the community`s annual party. On behalf of the entire community, we thank you, Gene and Evelyn, for your great dedication to the community`s children.

Township Hall: The Boston Twp. Hall Committee thanked the trustees for contributing the proceeds from the Community Bazaar towards their restoration efforts. During the month of February the wood floors in the two community rooms will be refinished.

Zoning Hearing: A zoning hearing will be set for Kamper City who has requested two variances for a fence. They have applied for a height variance as well as a variance regarding the location of the fence.

Zoning Positions Available: We are looking for one member for our Zoning Commission and one alternate to the same board. Zoning Commission members meet once a month to analyze the zoning ordinance for any updates or modifications, review changes in zoning laws that might impact the zoning ordinance, and provide guidance to the Board of Zoning Appeals regarding appeals to the zoning ordinance. Please contact one of the trustees if you would like to discuss serving on the Zoning Commission. Zoning board members are compensated $35 per meeting.

JEDD Corridor Plan: Mark Majewski of Northstar Planning attended the meeting held on January 25. He presented a final draft of a plan for the JEDD corridor along Akron-Cleveland Road. Mark will be attending the Zoning Commission meeting on March 14 to address issues.

"DON'T GET NO RESPECT"

Apologies to Rodney Dangerfield, but once again Boston Township has been ignored, this time by our State of Ohio.

According to the West Side Leader`s Jeff Gorman, Peninsula Police Chief Joe Varga, reported to the trustees that Ohio has a new law, House Bill 455, which restricts the speed limit in national parks to 35 mph.

Trustee Chair Amy Anderson said the state reduced the speed limit without consulting the trustees.

Chief Varga was quoted as saying „It's up to ODOT (Ohio Department of Transportation) to choose which roads can be 35.„

Instead of rolling over and playing dead, we urge you to contact your state representative and Governor Kasich and ask why our trustees were not informed that this was happening.

If you do so, perhaps we will be given some consideration in the future.

Marty Griffith

To the Editors:

Last month I attended the court proceedings of Mike Matusz, where he was found not guilty of the charge against him. After the verdict was read, the Judge released the jury. After they left the courtroom, the Judge asked everyone in the room to stay. Except for the attorneys, everyone was a Village or Boston Township resident.

The Judge addressed everyone. She offered her opinion that Peninsula was a beautiful and quaint community. She passes through often, has shopped and eaten there, and used the bike trail. She perceived the Village to be a great place to live.

She then voiced her dismay over two court cases that had come before her court in the last year that originated in the Village. Although the two cases were brought by two separate individuals, she, and everyone else, knew they were both initiated by the same person.

She then issued an admonishment. She stated that public officials need to set an example. They need to bring unity, not division. They need to use their power for the good of the community and its residents, not to further their personal agendas of their personal vendettas. Considering her position, she used decorum in not pointing any fingers, but the admonishment was directed at Mayor Doug Mayer. I wonder if he received the message.

VILLAGE OF PENINSULA LONG-RANGE PLAN

In 2003, the Village of Peninsula crafted its first ever Long-Range Plan. From that Plan, zoning ordinances were created that guide development in the community to this day. The Plan and zoning ordinances are important to all of us because they preserve the things that make Peninsula so unique, while also continuing to make our community a cherished and relevant place to live, work and play, now and for years to come.

In 2016, the Village Planning Commission created a sub-committee consisting of residents, members of Planning, and Council to update our Long-Range Plan. A lot has changed in thirteen years, and there are a lot of exciting new opportunities on the horizon for our community, so now is the perfect time to revisit our Plan.

We need to hear from you!

There are many people who have a vested interest in our community, and we are working on a series of surveys and events that will allow us to hear from as many of those people as we can. First and foremost, we are planning an event, hopefully taking place around March, in which residents can share their perspective on our community. More details will follow as they become available.

Please lend your voice to our Long-Range Plan. We want to hear from everyone!

The Peninsula Village Long-Range Plan sub-committee meets on the first Monday of the month at 7:00pm at the Village town hall, 1775 Main Street. Meetings are open to the public. The next meeting is March 6 at the town hall at 7:00pm.
