BOSTON TOWNSHIP

The township minutes are posted on our website at www.bostontownship.org and outside the fiscal office at the Boston Township Hall. Trustee meetings are the second and fourth Wednesday of the month. Zoning commission meets the second Tuesday of the month and the Board of Zoning Appeals meets the fourth Wednesday of the month.

FAKOLT ESTATE: The Township Trustees voted to assume title to the property donated to the township by the late Jeanette Fakolt. Jeanette, a life-long resident of Boston Township, left her home and other assets to the township. At this time, no decision has been made regarding the long-term use of the property. It is very humbling that Jeanette chose Boston Township to be the recipient of her estate.

Road Department: Unusual fall weather left leaves on trees well beyond years past. Seemingly, the leaves fell all at once! The leaf clean-up was then delayed by snow falling on top of the leaves, but the vacuuming process has been completed.

ZONING UPDATES: Northstar Planning is continuing to work with the Zoning Commission to review the zoning for the Business Corridor (Chapter 7) which last saw major changes in 1996. Of special concern is focusing on impacts on the residential areas along the west side of Akron-Cleveland Road.

SHARE THE SEASON: The trustees would like to thank all who helped make this year`s distribution of food and other items a great success!

BOSTON TOWNSHIP BAZAAR: The trustees would like to thank all those who helped make the Bazaar a great time! Forty vendors were present for the day-long event that was visited by an almost continuous flow of shoppers. Vendors reported a successful day of sales and shoppers left with sought-after treasures.

REMEMBERING: John Lahoski: December 19, 2005.

WEBSITE: Visit our Website at www.bostontownship.org to find up-to-date Township information. Contact numbers for the Trustees: Amy Anderson: 330-657-2439, Randy Bergdorf: 330-655-5698, and Bill Clifton: 330-657-4032. Fiscal Officer: Catherine Anson at 330-657-2059; Road Department: Dave Krusinski at 330-657-2600; and Zoning Inspector: John Schneider at 330-657-2601 or 234-900-9145.

THANK YOU

In November, 2018 I became ill and my son called 911 to take me to the hospital. The police arrived first in a very short time the EMS pretty much right behind them. We were amazed how quickly they got there. I was then loaded into the van, stabilized, and then taken down to Akron General Hospital. The EMS crew was very kind to me, very professional and I knew I was in good hands. I`m very proud of our police department and EMS service here in the Peninsula Valley. God Bless you all.

Ann and Tom Godlewski

PENINSULA PLANNING COMMISSION

The Village of Peninsula Planning Commission continues to research traffic and parking in the Village as well as diligently working on the update of the Village`s Long-Range Plan.

To properly evaluate and solve for better pedestrian and vehicular traffic flow in our community, the Commission is investigating the services of a traffic engineer. An engineer will be able to efficiently evaluate our needs, collect data and design effective solutions that work for everyone who moves about our Village.

In regard to the Long-Range Plan, the Commission is taking time to dive deep into the various sections and make thoughtful updates with the guidance and expertise of Aislinn Consulting. As part of this effort, the Commission is looking at historic and conservation overlays that will help preserve our small-town character while still allowing for sustainable residential, work and recreational opportunities. The Commission has drafts of both the historic and conservation overlays in the works right now, which may be reviewed by contacting the Village. The Commission expects to forward the conservation overlay to Council in January for Council and public review, with the hope being that Council approves this important measure in due time.

Information on the Long-Range Plan project, draft copies of overlays and other Planning Commission topics may be found at http://villageofpeninsula-oh.gov/?page_id=1463

As the Commission progresses from drafting the Long-Range Plan update to drafting proposed updates to our zoning, it is imperative that our community get involved and stay involved. All meetings are open to the public, documents are available online or at Town Hall. Additionally, the Commission will be hosting public input opportunities in the beginning of the new year to assure our Long-Range Plan reflects our community`s vision. Please consider taking the time to get informed and participate in the process now.

If you have any questions or would like to view or request Planning Commission related documents, please call 330-657-2151 or email admin@villageofpeninsula-oh.gov

Upcoming Planning and Council Meetings (all 7:00PM Village Town Hall unless otherwise noted):
January 7 — Long Range Plan
January 14 — Village Council
January 28 — Planning Commission
February 4 — Long Range Plan
February 11 — Village Council
February 25 — Planning Commission

PUBLIC HEALTH DATA AVAILABLE

Over the last several months, Summit County Public Health has collected samples from the Village storm sewers to identify and test for the presence of e-coli. The Village has received their findings report titled "SUMMIT COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH PENINSULA STORMWATER SAMPLING DATA." Residents can download this report from the Village website (http://villageofpeninsula-oh.gov) under the Wastewater Planning tab. This testing was done as a response to residents and Council members interested in having data on failing systems and "hot spots" within the Village. As we know, not every on-lot system in the Village discharges into the storm sewers. The OEPA is also conducting their own testing for e-coli in the Slipper Run tributary and also in the Cuyahoga River. Weather has been an issue for the OEPA in meeting the EPA`s very specific testing protocol so, at this time, we do not have any results from the OEPA. Hopefully soon we will have further data to share with you from the OEPA as well.

A very merry Christmas to all.

Dee Holody
