PENINSULA VILLAGE COUNCIL
Peninsula Village Council March 2008
Village Council passed a resolution approving the application for the annual SASWMA grant, which is $670 for promoting recycling in the village.
An ordinance changing the compensatory time policy was passed; this does away with the compensatory time entirely and employees working overtime will be paid time and one- half.
The Council hired Ed Muse as the village solicitor through the end of 2008.
A HUGE thank you to the road crew (Roger & Steven) for their hard work over the weekend of March 7 through 9 plowing roads and clearing the bridge walk and village hall sidewalks during the heavy snows.
Council authorized the clerk to look into financing for new police cruisers. Officer Westfall presented pricing on Chevrolet Impalas and Ford Crown Victorias, including the cost of converting from the current Crown Victoria and Expedition to the Chevrolet Impala.
Planning Commission reported they did not recommend the change in lot size from 4 acres to 2 acres. Council then had the first reading for an Ordinance to change the lot size in the area in question from 4 acres to 2 acres, and scheduled the public hearing for Monday, June 9, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. A notice will be published and posted in the village with the particulars. It will be necessary to have a super majority (5 of 6 votes) to pass this ordinance.
The Summit County Engineer’s office has applied to the federal government for a grant to resurface Akron Peninsula Road from Rt. 303 south to Bath Road. This will be done without cost to Peninsula, Boston Township, Cuyahoga Falls or Akron. Mr. Bachman’s office has been proactive in securing funding and adequately repairing roads in the park area to accommodate increased traffic.
Mayor Fisher is planning a discussion of the charter form of governing at the next council meeting.
Finally, we are looking for one or two volunteers to assist Jean Wurzbacher with records and filing in the Clerk Treasurer’s office. Please call 330-657-2714 if you are interested.
Thank you to everyone who helps out and gets involved in village government!
