To The Editor:

As you may know Paul Castro passed away in April 2007. Before his death Paul instructed his family to work with Bob Hunker and the Peninsula Valley Historic & Education Foundation to ensure the preservation of his property and to support the neighboring Bronson Church. Paul, who lived in the Village of Peninsula for much of his life, may have felt that his house and yard would otherwise be replaced by a gas station or McMansion.

When my wife Emily and I learned of this we contacted Bob to express our interest in restoring Paul’s house. Bob recognized the opportunity for us or other members of our extended family to someday move to Peninsula and be close to family and friends. He invited us to partner with the Foundation and each purchase a portion of Paul’s property.

Bob and I worked together to create a conservation easement, to be overseen by the Foundation that will ensure the restoration and preservation of Paul’s house and barn forever. With the help of a skilled contractor and many friends and family members, Emily and I are thrilled to take on this challenge. And we are happy to see the Foundation using the corner lots to support the beautiful Bronson Church. We appreciate the Foundation working with us and its efforts to preserve the Village of Peninsula.
