YEAR OF THE RIVER
2009 has been declared The Year of the River, celebrating 40 years of Cuyahoga River Recovery. Almost 40 years ago, June 22nd 1969 in Cleveland the river caught fire and gained national attention. The fire helped spur the Environmental Movement and helped lead passage of The Clean Water Act in 1972. Throughout 2009 many communities and organizations will commemorate this event.
