Classic Movie Night, April 2 at 6:30PM Citizen Kane
Orson Welles’ masterpiece has long been regarded by many as the best film…ever! John Foster Kane (Orson Welles) rises from obscurity to be one of the most important men in the world, a maker or breaker of fortunes. A thinly veiled portrayal of newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst, Welles portrays Kane with unparalleled bravado but also taps into the character’s weaknesses. Kane is an owner of newspapers, a candidate for high political office, in a marriage to the niece of the United States President, and a collector of most of the world’s rare treasures. Through all of the ups and downs, Kane loses sight of what really matters. Upon his death bed, he utters the clue to his life-long quest, “rosebud.”
