Dean and Freeda Johnson of Keenan Road in Boston Township were founders and directors of the Friends Disaster Service. For thirty-two years they guided this outreach and service arm of the Friends Church (Quakers). Friends Disaster Service provided cleanup and rebuild assistance to needy victims of floods, tornados, hurricanes, and earthquakes both nationally and internationally. A book titled It's About Restoration authored by Dean Johnson recounts interaction between disaster victims and the volunteer who rushed to their aid.
