BOSTON TOWNSHIP

The township minutes are posted on our website at www.bostontownship.org and outside the fiscal office at the Boston Township Hall. Trustee meetings are the second and fourth Wednesday of the month. Zoning commission meets the second Tuesday of the month and the Board of Zoning Appeals meets the fourth Wednesday of the month.

Road Department: Since the December 2018 issue of YCN we have had a change of personnel in the road department. Our prior Road Assistant submitted a letter of resignation on December 21 effective on that same day. The trustees advertised for the part-time position and received multiple resumes. The top four applicants were selected for interviews. At the regular meeting held on January 23, the trustees voted to hire Dan Schneider, Jr.

Zoning Updates: Northstar Planning is continuing to work with the Zoning Commission to review the zoning for the Business Corridor (Chapter 7) which last saw major changes in 1996. Of special concern is focusing on impacts on the residential areas along the west side of Akron-Cleveland Road.

Trash Contract Renewal: Kimble representative Don Johnson attended the Trustees` meeting held January 23 regarding the garbage contract renewal for Boston Township. Although the board notified Kimble in September 2018 to renew the contract for another year, a response in a five-year contract renewal with significant increases wasn`t received until late December. A revised two-year proposal was received in early January. The proposal cited industry-wide outside influences affecting the cost of garbage collecting and processing. The proposed renewal will move from $15.22 per month/$3.01 per bag to $18.66 per month/$4.50 per bag. The board expressed displeasure at the size of the increase and the short notice given that the increase would go into effect February 1 and there is no time to notify residents or to place the contract out for bid.

Assistance to Peninsula Village: In response to the fire that devastated the Peninsula Road Garage on January 24, the trustees have opened the Township Road Garage for the village`s joint use. We would like to thank our employees, Dave Krusinski and Dan Schneider for welcoming the village employees and for making sure everything has proceeded so seamlessly.
