CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR RETIREMENT ASSISTANT CHIEF MOREHOUSE

On Friday, August 30, 2019, after forty seven years of dedication, Valley Fire District Assistant Chief Dave Morehouse finished his final day of duty.

The Valley Fire District honored Assistant Chief Morehouse with a traditional "Radio Sign Off" Ceremony, where he signed off the radio for the last time. Following that, another fire service tradition took place in which Assistant Chief Morehouse took a final ride in a fire truck. The procession, which consisted of both Valley Fire District and Hudson Fire Department vehicles took a ride through town and ended up at the Morehouse residence where the Woodridge band was playing in the front yard. Valley Fire District, Hudson, Brecksville and Richfield Firefighters along with Peninsula Police officers and National Park Service Rangers lined both sides of the Morehouse driveway as Fire Chief Charlie Riedel and Captain Scott Duber escorted Chief Morehouse up the driveway and returned him safe and sound to his wife, Connie, who surrounded by family and friends, gladly took him back.

Assistant Chief Morehouse was one of the first three people on the Peninsula Fire Department and subsequently the Valley Fire District to go through Emergency Medical Technician training and assisted in refurbishing a used hearse ambulance, which became the first ambulance in Peninsula.

He was also, instrumental in starting a Valley Fire District rope rescue team to address rescue concerns in the National Park. This team merged with the Summit County Technical Rescue Team.

In 2000, Assistant Chief Morehouse received the Summit County Firefighter of the Year award.

The Valley Fire District would like to wish Assistant Chief Morehouse the best in retirement. You will be missed.
