COVID Update: As vaccinations are increasing and cases are decreasing, the possibility of a more substantial reopening of the Peninsula Library is coming into focus. The Ohio Library Council, the professional organization for Ohio`s libraries, has asked the Governor`s office for clarification of "mass gatherings" in terms of library programs and to reevaluate mandatory quarantining of returned library materials. After the most recent update in eligibility for vaccination (those 50 and up), all staff who are eligible for the vaccine at this point have registered to receive it. We will keep you updated as we know more and greatly appreciate your patience with us as we all work through this most unusual situation.
Library Levy Renewal: In 1985, Peninsula Library and Akron-Summit County Public Library (ASCPL) reached an agreement that Peninsula Library will receive the levy proceeds collected in the Nordonia Hills, Revere and Woodridge school district areas of Boston Heights, Boston Township and Peninsula. The current levy expires this year and a renewal for the same millage will appear on the May 4, 2021 ballot as Issue 10. The levy is for 1.9 mills and will run for six years. The expiring 1.9 mill levy provided 27% ($127,730) of the Library`s total 2020 operating revenue ($471,601). For computation purposes, the cost of the renewal levy for the owner of a $100,000 house will be approximately $51.00 per year or $4.25 per month. Money generated by this levy can be used only for operating costs such as staff payroll, utilities, building and grounds maintenance, purchasing of library materials, and other operating costs.
