MEMORIAL DAY THANKS: Thank you to Patty Tesmer for organizing this year's Memorial Day parade. Our thanks to the Woodridge Band members for a wonderful performance. Thanks to the band parents for providing hot dogs and beverages at the old Boston Community Church and to Rob Conroy for organizing their participation. Thank you to Pastor Claudia Britton and Reverend Lea Mahan for their blessings and Jack Mercer our master of ceremonies. Thanks to the Boy Scouts, members of Valley Fire, and Peninsula Police for participating in the parade. Special thanks to Dave Georgeoff for extra help this year and to Jean Wurzbacher for last minute transportation assistance. Thank you to all of our veterans who participated and to all of the residents past and present and friends for attending the parade in Boston.

ZONING: Paul Kaczmarski has graciously agreed to continue as a member of the Board of Zoning Appeals. His term will continue until 2021. We still have an open position on the Zoning Commission as well as an open alternate position on the Zoning Commission. If you are interested, please contact one of the trustees.

PENINSULA VILLAGE

The Village of Peninsula Council met in regular session on June 13, 2016.

-The Mayor announced that the Akron Zoo Community Days for the Village of Peninsula are September 6 through September 11. Tickets will be available for pick-up at the Village Hall after August 22nd There is a 4 ticket maximum per family, while supplies last.

-Council voted to replace the brakes on the Village pickup truck. Passed unanimously

-Council voted to promote Alan Halko to the position of Working Supervisor, Level I. Passed unanimously

-The Mayor announced that Officer Robert Havranek has submitted his letter of retirement effective August 31, 2016.

LEGISLATION
RESOLUTION 9-2016

An emergency resolution authorizing the continuance of the one mill cemetery maintenance tax for the Village of Peninsula and Boston Township Union Cemetery Association - Passed unanimously.

RESOLUTION 10-2016
An emergency resolution providing a pay increase to present village employees - Passed unanimously.

RESOLUTION 11-2016
An emergency resolution authorizing the mayor and fiscal officer to enter into an agreement for renewal of the village's insurance policies with selective insurance company through Wichert Insurance - Passed unanimously.

RESOLUTION 12-2016
An emergency resolution authorizing certain amendments to the 2016 annual appropriation ordinance - Passed unanimously.

RESOLUTION 13-2016
An emergency resolution authorizing the mayor to enter into an agreement with the Cuyahoga Valley National Park for specific roadside maintenance services - Passed unanimously.

ORDINANCE 7-2016
An emergency ordinance repealing section 1301.07 and enacting chapter 1311 of the building code relating to unsafe and dangerous buildings - Tabled.

PENINSULA FOUNDATION

Our Civil War Lecture Series for this month will be Thursday, June 23rd. Dr. Dianne Kauffmann will present Women Spies of the Civil War. Lectures are held every fourth Thursday at the G.A.R. Hall at 7:00pm and are FREE to the public!

Voices in the Valley will be taking a break for the month of July. Here are the concerts beginning in August:

CONDOLENCES

James Donald McKenna, Jr. passed away June 11, 2016 at the age of sixty-seven. JD is survived by his wife Shawna; children Reggan Koopmeiners (Nathan), Shane and Patrick (Kristen); grandfather of Jordan, Tyler, Isabelle, and Charlee; great-grandfather of Ella Mae; dear son of Patricia McKenna; brother of Robert (Peggy), Kathy Fairchild (Paul), and Marilyn Maconachy (Tom). He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Rylan Koopmeiners; brother, John; and father, James D. McKenna, Sr.

Carol Knight John, 76, of Ithaca, died with her family present on June 12, 2016. She attended the University of Pennsylvania, where she received a degree in Occupational Therapy, which she continued to practice and teach throughout her life.

Carol was a hiker, sailor, marathoner, triathlete, gifted teacher, master gardener, and prolific quilter. Whatever she undertook she did with energy, passion, and generosity. She will be remembered with love for operating Wonderful Wheelchairs, a charity which restores and repairs wheelchairs for the needy, and for her commitment to the Tompkins County Quilters Guild.

Carol is survived by husband Jim John; sister Mary Anne Hunter; brother Robert Knight; first husband Jack Harley; children Walter Harley, John Harley, and Rachel Harley Mitchell; grandson Charlie Mitchell; six stepchildren; and many step grandchildren, cousins, nephews, and nieces.

A funeral mass was held at Immaculate Conception Church in Ithaca.

Peninsula Art Academy 13th Annual Fiber Art Show July 30-August 26
The Peninsula Art Academy's Fiber Cafe Studio is pleased to announce the 13th annual Juried Fiber Arts Show to be held at the Peninsula Library from July 30 through August 26. Artists are invited to enter their work in the show, open to all area fiber artists. Welcoming variety, there will be categories for both functional and non-functional works. Prizes will be awarded. For up to four pieces: $30.00 for non-members and $25.00 for members of the Fiber Cafe/PAA. Entry fee for four or five pieces: $45.00 for non-members and $35.00 for members. (Membership in The Peninsula Fiber Cafe/PAA is $50.00 per year). Jurying will occur on Wednesday, July 27. Notification (if not accepted) will be made by phone after work is juried. Payment may be made to the Peninsula Art Academy (please do not leave payment at the library). MOTHER OF SORROWS PARISH, PENINSULA

Memorial Day has come and gone at Mother of Sorrows Parish, but not without a Mass and then visit to our parish cemetery, Mater Dolorosa (off Route 303 east next Happy Days Visitor Center) for prayers. Looking to Independence Day, Monday, July 4 Mass will be at 8:30am and all are welcome to come and join in praying for our Nation on its 240th birthday. During the summer months the Mass schedule remains the same with the weekend Masses being Saturday at 5pm, Sunday at 8:30am and 11:00am. Weekday Masses are M-T-TH-F at 8:30am. PENINSULA ART ACADEMY

Peninsula Art Academy hosts the Peninsula En Plein Air 2016 event. The result of those three days of painting in the village and the park, early in June, is 46 artists creating 67 submissions. The Artists' Reception is being held on Saturday, June 25, 6 to 8 p.m., at the Peninsula Art Academy, 1600 Mill Street (on the way to Terry's). Light fare and beverages will be served. Winners and Honorable Mentions, with three attendant prizes, will be presented around 7:30, and there will be a guests' preference announced, as well. Come see our village and surrounding sites the artists have found to be of high interest. There is some very good art coming from their choices.
